Cardinals Stand in Third Place After First Round at the Mobile Bay

LOUISVILLE-Â Matthias Schmid carded a 68 to lead the University of Louisville Men's Golf Team to third place after the first round of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on Sunday.
As a team, the Cardinals shot an 8-under-par 280 to sit in second place after the first 18 holes. Â Illinois takes the lead into the Clubhouse, six shots ahead of UofL. Kent State is in second place just one shot in front of the Cardinals.Â
A senior, Schmid stands in a tie for fourth place after recording four birdies and not registering a bogey in the first 18 holes.Â
Senior John Murphy and junior Jiri Zuska are tied for eighth after shooting first-round scores of 70. Â The duo combined for seven birdies in the morning round, with Murphy recording four.Â
Playing in his first tournament, Max Kennedy shot an even-par 72, while senior Trevor Johnson shot a 3-over-par 75.Â
