LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville will play its first game of the new calendar year as the Cardinals visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET. Â The game was moved from Jan. 1 to Jan. 2. Â
Playing its first game in 11 days after a COVID-related pause and a brief Christmas break, Louisville defeated Wake Forest 73-69 on Wednesday as the Cardinals made 10-of-22 three-pointers and limited the Demon Deacons to 38.1 percent shooting from the field -- the seventh UofL opponent to shoot below 40 percent this year. Â Noah Locke led the Cards with 17 points, connecting on a season-high 5-of-7 three-point goals and scoring 14 of his points in the second half as UofL recovered from a nine-point deficit.Â
Samuell Williamson made his first start of the season vs. Wake Forest and finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, his fourth double figure scoring effort of the season. Â Mason Faulkner totaled 11 points and five assists vs. Wake Forest, his third consecutive game scoring in double figures. He passed 1,400 points for his collegiate career.Â

Georgia Tech (6-5, 0-1), which postponed its Dec. 28 game against Syracuse due to COVID issues, beat Georgia State 72-62 in overtime on Dec. 21 in its last game. Â Georgia Tech guard Michael Devoe leads the ACC and is 10th in the nation in scoring (21.0 ppg) and is second in three-point field goal percentage (.459) and threes per game (2.8).Â
Louisville has a 23-14 series advantage over Georgia Tech and the Cardinals have won 10 of the last 11 meetings. Â In the last matchup, Louisville prevailed 74-58 last season in the KFC Yum! Center (2-1-21) as Carlik Jones led UofL with 23 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.
