
Pantiere's Record Day Leads Louisville at Cardinal Classic

"What a way to open the indoor season! We are glad that we were able to start at home this year and am thankful for an outstanding group of officials and volunteers that helped stage a terrific competition," said head coach Dale Cowper. "We saw many outstanding efforts, but Isiah Pantiere really stands out from this afternoon. He has been a model of consistency within the training group and was able to come and show off today."
As a program, the Cardinals totaled nine event wins, while 15 athletes their track and field debut and 14 earned indoor personal best marks.
"From the performances achieved today, it is easy to see that the Norton Sports and Learning Complex is a top-tier facility. We look forward to hosting future events and watching the sport of indoor track and field grow in our community." added Cowper.
Addie Wanner opened the afternoon by clearing 1.65m (5-5) to place first in the women's high jump. The women's field success continued with a pair of medal finishes in the long jump as a three Cardinals recorded personal bests marks in the event. Ariel Lawrence posted a mark of 5.93m (19-5.5) to finish second, while Brooke Weimer followed at 5.90m (18-3.75) to place third before Riley Burger closed out the trio of personal best marks with a height of 5.69m (18-8) for fourth. Burger added a first-place mark of 11.70m (38-4.75) in the women's triple jump, while Styliana Ioannidou turned in a runner-up finish of 11.68m (38-4) in her collegiate debut.
In the pole vault, Louisville took four of the top five spots with Gabriela Leon leading the way at 4.18m (13-8.5) for a second-place finish. Aliyah Welter finished third at 4.03m (13-2.5) while Auriane Viola and Lily Fleetwood placed fourth and fifth respectively at 3.88m (12-8.75).
The women's weight throw featured a pair of personal bests and top-four finishes as Katherine Coffey placed third with a toss of 17.80m (58-4.75) before Tiana Bazie notched a fourth-place finished with her best throw of 16.93m (55-6.5).
On the track, Kassidy Dill led all runners in the women's 3000-meter when the UNC Greensboro transfer clocked in at 10:23.32. Lexie Paszkiewicz earned a runner-up finish with a time of 10:30.49 in her first collegiate indoor meet while Megan John followed in fourth at 10:47.18. Competing for the first time in the indoor 800m Taylor Boggess, a transfer from Bellarmine, took the event with a time of 2:20.94. Katie Martin clocked in at 1:15.12 for a third-place showing in the 500-meter, while Mia Edwards finished fifth at 1:24.62 in her collegiate indoor debut. In the 60m prelims, three Cardinals qualified for the finals, led by Kiyah Yeast, who posted a personal-best time of 7.59 to finish third. Taylor Herbert made her Louisville debut, clocking in at 7.48 for fourth followed by Brooke Raglin in eighth at 7.67. Raglin went on to place fifth in the finals with a time of 7.65.
Pantiere opened his indoor season with back-to-back personal bests in the men's 60-meter. The redshirt sophomore ran a personal-best time of 6.81 to qualify for the 60-meter finals, where he bested that mark with at 6.80 to finish third in the event. Jeremiah Willis earned a first-place finish in the long jump, establishing a new personal-best leap of 7:59m (24-11) which ranks ninth in program history. The Cardinal men went on to sweep the top-three in two events in the mile and high jump. Ryan Farrell finished with a time of 4:20.62 to take the men's mile, while Trey Allen cleared a personal-best height of 2.18m to take the men's high jump.
Ben Ewert set a personal-best time of 8:24.86 in the 3000-meter, crossing in over 30 seconds faster than the next finisher. Jorge Contreras tied the seventh-best indoor mark in school history with a personal-best heave of 17:87m to take the men's shot put.
