Louisville Men’s Soccer Ends Season in NCAA Tournament First Round

The Cardinals took a 1-0 loss against Bowling Green on Thursday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 2021 season came to a close for the University of Louisville men's soccer team on Thursday night with a 1-0 loss against Bowling Green in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The Cardinals wrap up the season with a 10-7-1 overall record and their 13th NCAA Tournament appearance in the last 15 seasons. Louisville also captured its first ACC Atlantic Division title with a 5-3-0 mark in conference play.
Bowling Green (11-5-3) came out on the attack Thursday night taking the opening shot of the game in the 10th minute that missed wide.
After a shot attempt from each side midway through the first half, the Falcons found the back of the net in the 30th minute. A cross from the left settled in the center of the box and was banged off the inside of the left post for the opening strike.
The Cardinals had a pair of opportunities over the final 15 minutes of the half but went to the locker room at halftime down 1-0.
Things started quickly in the second half for the Cardinals with a close chance in the opening seconds of the second half. The charge continued with shots from Bryce LeBel and Bradley Sample along with a pair or corner kicks in the first six minutes.
Detre Bell helped keep the Cardinals in the match with a trio of saves with the Cardinals in search of the tying goal.
Louisville's best opportunity came in the 81st minute with Pedro Fonseca playing a lead pass for Ugo Achara. Achara had a chance one-on-one with the keeper, but his shot bent just outside the left post.
Bowling Green held a 10-9 advantage in shots on Thursday night, while the Cardinals led 4-2 in corner kicks.
