
2021 Field Hockey Spring Schedule Released

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville head field hockey coach Justine Sowry has announced the spring portion of the 2020-21 schedule. The schedule features eight matches, including all six ACC opponents with an additional two non-conference games. Louisville will also play three contests at Trager Stadium.

"As we look to the spring, we will make adjustments based on our lessons learned from the fall and we are eager to compete," said Sowry. "Once again, we will be faced with a tough schedule. However, we are fortunate to be able to take the field against elite competition, are hopeful we will continue to improve and progress, and ultimately compete for an NCAA title."Â

The Cards will kick off the spring portion of the season the first weekend of March with two road games. The first being defending national champion North Carolina, whom Louisville defeated 3-1 in the fall regular season ending the Tar Heels' 47-game win streak and giving them their first loss since 2017. Following their season opener, Louisville will be traveling closer to home for a match-up against Ball State.

In their home opener on March 13, the Cardinals will take on ACC opponent Virginia. In the fall, Louisville swept the Cavaliers 5-2 and 2-1 in a pair of regular season road matches and then won 5-2 in the semifinals of the ACC Championship. The Cards will wrap up the month of March with a pair road games, starting with a non-conference game at Miami (Ohio) followed by a trip to Newton, Mass. to take on Boston College. Louisville defeated the Eagles 2-1 in the fall regular season matchup.

The first weekend of April, Syracuse will visit Trager Stadium as Louisville looks to avenge its lone regular season loss of the fall, a 2-1 setback on the road in the final game of the season. The Cardinals will then hit the road to face Duke on April 10. In the fall, the Cardinals swept the Blue Devils 3-0 and 3-1 in their first two games at Trager Stadium.

UofL will wrap up the regular season on April 17 with a home game against Wake Forest, whom Louisville topped 2-1 in Winston-Salem in the fall.

On April 24, the top team in the ACC spring season standings will take on fall tournament champion North Carolina in Chapel Hill to determine the league's automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament field which will consist of 12 teams this year. The first and second rounds are slated for April 30-May 2 with the semifinals and finals taking place May 5-7 and hosted by North Carolina.

The Cardinals finished the fall portion of the 2020-21 season with an 8-2 overall record with a program-best 5-1 mark in ACC play, securing the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the ACC tournament for the first time in program history. Louisville posted a runner-up in the tournament after falling 4-2 to defending champion North Carolina in the finals.
