The Cardinals are scheduled to compete at the Southwestern Invitational from Jan.25-Jan.27 in Westlake Village, Calif.
LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The University of Louisville men's golf team will compete in its second tournament in as many weeks on Monday when it tees off at the 2021 Southwestern Invitational held at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. This marks the first time in program history that Louisville has participated in two events in the month of January.
Â
Golf Channel announced that it will provide live coverage of the three-day tournament. The Southwestern Invitational is one of seven college golf tournaments scheduled to be televised on the network this season, including the NCAA Men's and Women's Division I Golf National Championships set to take place in May 2021 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Â
'The Southwestern Invitational has a long tradition of having some of the best teams and college golfers in the country compete on an exceptional golf course," head coach Ryan Blagg said. "We are excited to get play in it this week. It's one of the few opportunities that college golfers get to play on national television. It should be a fun week."
Â
This is the 42nd edition of the Southwestern Invitational. The tournament dates all the way back to 1978 when it was first hosted by USC. The Trojans hosted the event for almost three decades before co-hosting with Pepperdine in 2013 and 2014. It has been hosted by Pepperdine since, serving as the school's home tournament for the last eight seasons. This year marks the first time that Louisville has competed in the event.
Â
North Ranch Country Club is home to two of the top courses in Southern California. The tournament will be played on the 6,922-yard Oaks and Lakes courses, which are aptly named after the signature oak trees that are peppered throughout the course. It has served as the host site of the historic event each of the last eight seasons.
Â
Four teams ranked in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches top-25 poll are set to tee off Monday. The loaded 12-team field is led by No.1 Pepperdine, No.10 Arizona State, No.19 SMU, and No.20 Georgia Tech.
Â
The rest of the participants include Augusta, California, East Tennessee State, Saint Mary's, San Diego State, San José State, and USC.
Â
Louisville will travel the same card from the last week's Camp Creek Seminole Invitational. The five-player lineup includes Matthias Schmid, John Murphy, Devin Morley, Trevor Johnson, Jiri Zuska.
Â
Zuska finished as the top golfer for the Cardinals last time out. He tied for 20th, firing a final round of 4-under 68. Murphy posted the second-best round of the tournament, shooting 6-under 66 and recording seven birdies over the final round.
Â
Teams will tee off on the first 18 holes Monday, Jan. 25Â starting on holes one and ten at 10:48 a.m. ET. The second and third round will follow on Tuesday, Jan. 26 and Wednesday, Jan. 27. Live scoring throughout the tournament can be followed on GolfStat.com.
