Cards Finish Strong at McCravy Green Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Louisville posted two wins to close out the McCravy Green Invitational Saturday at the University of Kentucky's Nutter Field House.

"This weekend gives us a great idea of where we are," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "Some of our group has truly used the last few months of time to get better at their respective discipline. Those individuals were able to shine brightly over the last few days."

Along with the event wins, the Cardinals also achieved four personal-best marks and a new school record in the men's 60m dash where Sterling Warner ran the fastest time in the nation with a time of 6.65 in the prelims.

Louisville took first and second in the men's triple jump, with sophomore Jeremiah Willis achieving a personal-best of 15.07m (49-5.5) and fellow sophomore Cayden-Spencer-Thompson placing second at 14.81m (48-7.25).

The Cardinals also claimed two of the top three spots in the women's triple jump, as freshman Ariel Lawrence continued her impressive weekend finishing second with a mark of 11.72m (38.5.5) and junior Briana Washington followed with a leap of 11.33m (37-2.25) to place third.

UofL continued its impressive day in the women's 3000m where junior Purity Sanga crossed the finish line first, clocking in at 9:44.69 and senior Baily Beery finished third with a time of 9:52.55.

The Cardinals placed two among the top three in the women's pole vault with senior Gabriela Leon taking second with a clearance of 3.90m (12-9.50) and sophomore Auriane Viola clearing 3.75m (12.3.50), good for third place.

Junior Sterling Warner led all qualifiers for the 60m dash finals setting a new school record and clocking the fastest time in the nation at 6.65 in the prelims. Senior Brooke Raglin qualified for the women's 60m dash finals with a prelim time of 7.59 and and improved on that time running 7.56 in the finals. Â

Senior Emma Bryant turned in personal-best times in the women's mile (4:55.85) and the 800m (2:13.91), finishing third and fifth respectively.

Freshman Justin Lehmkuhler paced Louisville in the 60m hurdles, debuting in the event with a time of 8.52, finishing third.
Â
Freshman McKenzie Bell was solid in her collegiate debut leading the Cardinals in the women's 400m with a time of 56.60.

"We need to continue to make progress during the upcoming training phase as we continue to sharpen for the ACC Championships at the end of February," said Cowper.
Â
Up next for Louisville will be the Hokie Invitational which will take place January 22-23 in Blacksburg, Va.
