LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The honors continue to mount for University of Louisville men's golfer Matthias Schmid. The senior was chosen to the Haskins Award Watch List, the Golf Channel announced Thursday.
Schmid is one of just 30 golfers in the country to be on the watch list for the prestigious honor awarded to the nation's top college golfer annually.
A native of Maxhuette, Germany, Schmid has put together an incredible career, posting a 70.86 stroke average in 35 career events and notched 18 top-10 finishes.
A PING All-American Honorable Mention, Schmid finished second on the team with a 69.91 scoring average, which is the second-best mark in school history. He recorded two top-five finishes, including second at the Bearcat Invitational, shooting a 14-under-par 199 and a final round of 65, and third at Dorado Beach Invitational shooting a rain-shortened 67.
In 2018-19, Schmid set the previous school record for scoring average in a season at 70.55, while also leading the country in birdies. As a sophomore, Schmid played on the International Palmer Cup team and was selected to the Atlantic Coast Conference team. A second-team All-American honoree, Schmid tied the school record with 10 top-10 finishes. He posted his first career win by firing an 18-under-par 192
