Scrubb Named NJCAA Player of the Year by NABC

UofL signee also earned first team All-America honors by the NABC
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Louisville men's basketball signee Jay Scrubb has been named the 2020 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Player of the Year powered by ShotTracker, as well as earning first-team NABC All-America honors.
As a sophomore last season, Scrubb led John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill. to a 28-5 record and the No. 5 seed of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament, prior to its cancelation due to COVID-19. He averaged 21.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 50.1 percent from the field and 72.1 percent at the free throw line. The 6-5 guard/forward from Louisville produced eight games with 30 or more points last season, including scoring a season-high 38 points twice.
Scrubb finished in the top 20 in the NJCAA in total points (634), free throws made (157), and field goals made (218). He scored 1,240 points in his two seasons with the Volunteers. As a freshman last season, Scrubb averaged 20.2 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocked shots as Logan posted a 27-5 record and was ranked fifth in the nation in earning first team 2019 NJCAA Division I All-America honors. In the summer of 2019, he was the only junior college player invited to the US Men's U19 World Cup team training camp.
Scrubb averaged 17.8 points and 7.1 rebounds a game as a senior at Trinity High School in Louisville in 2017-18 when he was selected as the Seventh Region Player of the Year and was a finalist for Kentucky's Mr. Basketball. He was also the Seventh Region Player of the Year as a junior when he averaged 16.1 points at Trinity.
Scrubb, who signed a national letter-of-intent with the Cardinals in November, has entered his name into the 2020 NBA Draft while taking steps to maintain his collegiate eligibility to allow him to join the UofL squad.
