
Trio of Cardinals Named NFHCA Scholars of Distinction

GILBERT, Ariz. - Three University of Louisville field hockey players have been recognized as Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Scholars of Distinction. Sam Minrath, Camryn Pichea and Meghan Schneider were among 167 student-athletes who earned the honor.

The Division I Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year.

Minrath, a redshirt freshman from Louisville, Ky. (Christian Academy) picks up her second straight National Scholar of Distinction honor. The goalkeeper played in six games and served as a penalty stroke specialist for the Cardinals. She is a two-time NFHCA National Academic Squad selection.

Pichea also earns the honor for the second straight season. The redshirt freshman and Louisville native (Assumption) played in 16 games this season and scored her first career goal in the win over Longwood. She is also a two-time NFHCA National Academic Squad honoree.

This marks the third straight NFHCA National Scholar of Distinction award for Meghan Schneider, who was also named to the 2019 ACC Academic Field Hockey Team. The junior from San Diego, Calif. (Serra), started every game this season and dished out a career-high five assists while leading the Cardinals' defensive unit to eight shutouts and was selected to the 2019 NFHCA All-West Region second team. She was recently named to USA Field Hockey's Under 21 Team for the third year. She had previously spent two years as a member of USA Field Hockey U19 team.

About Louisville Field Hockey
The 2019 Cardinals posted a 16-6 overall record, tying a program mark for wins and earned the overall No. 4 seed in the NCAA tournament, serving as a host site for the first time in program history. Louisville also made its first foray into the NCAA quarterfinals after defeating Michigan 2-1 in double-overtime in its first-round matchup.

UofL finished the season at No. 5 in the NFHCA Coaches poll after reaching as high as No. 5. The Cardinals spent the last 10 weeks of the season ranked among the top 10 in the nation.
