LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's soccer senior midfielder Emina Ekic announced on Thursday night that she will forego her remaining eligibility and declare for the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Draft, which will take place on Jan. 13, 2021.
Â
She announced her decision via a statement on Twitter.
Â
"I would like to formally announce that I am foregoing my remaining eligibility to pursue my professional career. I owe an endless amount of gratitude to my coaches, advisors, and support staff for supplying me with the best resources to be successful and reach my goals. I would like to give a special thank you to my trainers and the medical staff for rehabbing me through injuries on numerous occasions so I could continue to do what I love.
Â
I want to thank Card Nation for being absolutely incredible with your support throughout the years. Louisville will always be home and the Cards will always have a special place in my heart.
Â
As hard as it is to say goodbye, I'm excited for what's to come!"
Â
Ekic was named the 2020 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, becoming the first player in program history to earn ACC Offensive Player of the Year honors. She played in all nine games with nine starts, leading the team with seven goals and 17 points, while ranking second with three assists.
Â
The Louisville, Ky. native, finishes her career with 29 goals, which ranks fourth all-time in program history, while her 19 career assists rank second.
