Evansville Replaces Southern Illinois in Louisville Men’s Basketball Event
November 17, 2020 | Men's Basketball
The Cardinals will play five games over 10 days from Nov. 25 through Dec. 4 among the 16 games
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Evansville will replace Southern Illinois in the University of Louisville's season-opening men's basketball event after the Salukis paused activities due to positive COVID-19 test results. Evansville will now be the Cardinals' opening game of the 2020-21 season on Nov. 25.
The Aces will play two games in the Wade Houston Tipoff Classic as UofL, KFC Yum! Center and Galt House Hotel will serve as host for the event that will include nine participating teams who will play 16 games over a 10-day stretch from Nov. 25 through Dec. 4, 2020, one less game than earlier planned.
The change required a revision to the schedule, as Southern Illinois had planned to play three games, while Evansville will play two in the event. The dates and opponents for the Cardinals' additional four games in the season-opening event did not change.
Game times and television assignments have also been set for the season-opening event. Louisville will start its 2020-21 season on Nov. 25 against Evansville at 4 p.m. ET on ACC Network as part of an opening day double-header in the KFC Yum! Center that will also include Prairie View against Little Rock. The Cardinals will play their next four games on Nov. 27 against Seton Hall (4 p.m., ESPN2); Nov. 29 against Prairie View A&M (6 p.m., ACC Regional Sports Networks); Dec. 1 against Western Kentucky (6 p.m., ACC Network) and Dec. 4 against UNC Greensboro (2 p.m., ACC Network).
Four teams will play five games each (Little Rock, Louisville, UNC Greensboro and Prairie View A&M), three will play three games (Duquesne, Western Kentucky and Winthrop) and one will play two (Evansville) and one will play one (Seton Hall) during the first week-plus of the college basketball season. The adjustments will now have one triple-header, five days with a pair of games, three days with a single game and one day without a game (Thanksgiving) during the 10-day period.
The Wade Houston Tipoff Classic is the designated multi-team event and will incorporate two games each from eight of the participants. Each of the remaining games in Louisville during the stretch will serve as regular, non-conference games on each team's schedule. Western Kentucky is playing three games outside of the multi-team event. All of the games in the event in which Louisville is not participating will be televised by ESPN3.
