Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's and women's indoor track and field teams open their 2020 season Friday at the Gene Edmonds Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.

The meet will open on Friday afternoon with the women's weight throw at 3:30 p.m. followed by the men. The top nine performers from each field event will advance to the finals. Running events will begin at 6 p.m. with the 60m hurdles preliminary. Friday's competition will conclude at 8:10 p.m. with the women's 60m dash semifinals.

The heptathlon 60-meter hurdles will start things off on Saturday's at 9:30 a.m. Field events will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the women's shot put followed by the men. Running events will start at 12:15 p.m with the men 60-meter hurdles finals and conclude at 5:05 p.m. with the 4x400 relay.

The Cardinals women's track and field team starts the season ranked 20th in the preseason edition of the USTFCCCA Indoor Team Rankings. The women return six athletes ranked in the Top 30 nationally. Junior Makenli Forrest is ranked third in the weight throw after finishing as the NCAA runner-up last season with a personal best toss of 22.54m.

Redshirt senior Christian Buckley who won the shot put at the Gene Edmunds Invitational last year, Â Â placed in the top five in all six indoor meets last season. Â The Cardinals' talented freshman class will make their collegiate debuts this weekend, led by freshman Trey Allen, the top ranked high jumper and New Balance National Champion.
