Cards stay unbeaten at home

LOUISVILLE, Ky -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team continues its strong start to the 2020 season by picking up a 5-2 win over Lipscomb on Friday afternoon to stay unbeaten at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

Louisville clinched the doubles point with wins at No.1 by Andrea Di Palma and Rhea Verma, who beat Denise Buberl and Kate Popova 6-1. UofL clinched the point when the No.2 pair of Raven Neely and Maia Haumueller downed Liza Diachenko and Maddox Bandy 6-2.

"We were playing good, aggressive, smart doubles. That was good to see. We needed it because if we didn't have it then that match could have actually gotten a little bit tricky. It was good to get that doubles win," said Mark Beckham, UofL head coach.

The Cardinals stayed on top of the Bison in singles, starting with a win at No.3 when Rhea Verma beat Denise Buberl 6-4, 6-4. The next point was won by Andrea Di Palma at No. 2, who won 6-2, 7-5 over Emma Zakordoniac. The match was clinched by Jelena Vujanic at No. 4, who rolled 7-5, 6-4 over Anja Trbeznik. The Cards also got a point from Dina Chaika, who won 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 over Eleanor Chapman.

"We're good in every spot but I need to make sure that everyone stays focused and everyone is playing sharp.If we do that then I think we are a very dangerous team. I do want to have a good practice tomorrow to try and get ourselves ready to try and play better on Sunday," said Beckham.

The Cards will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 12 p.m. to take on Furmanat the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. .
