Cardinals Start the 2020 Indoor Season With a Bang

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. --Â The University of Louisville track team started the 2020 indoor season at the Gene Edmonds Invitational with two field wins, six top three finishes while six athletes advanced to the final round held on Saturday.Â

The Cardinals swept the men's triple jump with the top three finishers. Freshman Cayden Spencer-Thompson won the triple jump with a leap of 15.57m/51-01.00 for his first career win. Anthony McRoberts finished second with a jump of 14.56m (47-09.25) and Jeremiah Willis finished third with a mark of 14.19m (46-06.75).

Makenli Forrest started her junior year with a win in the weight throw. The NCAA runner-up won the event with a throw of 20.69m (67-10.75). Halee Hudson finished second in the event with a toss of 18.99m (62-03.75).Â

Freshman Briana Washington started her season off with a third place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.69m (38-04.25). Clay Moss currently stands in third place through four events in the heptathlon.

Kayla Alexander and Kelsey Heyward advanced to the 60m hurdle finals on Saturday. Alexander broke the school record in the prelims, clocking a time of 8.40. She broke record of 8.41 set by Theresa Lewis at the 2007 Big East Championships.Â

Sterling Warner advanced to the men's 60m dash finals. Warner broke his previous school record of 6.76 set at the ACC Championship last season. He broke it first with a time of 6.75 in the first round then again with a time of 6.73 in the semi-finals.Â

Rounding out the night, Brooke Raglin and Sharnae Alston advanced to the 60m dash finals. Raglin won the first round and semi-finals round, finishing with a time of 7.43 and 7.50 respectively. Alston finished third in the semi-finals with a time of 7.56. Â
