FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
1. The University of Louisville football team hits the road for the first time, traveling to Nashville, Tenn., for a neutral site game versus intra-state rival Western Kentucky at Nissan Stadium on Saturday at 4 p.m. The game will be televised on Stadium with Josh Appel and Jordan Palmer calling the action. Head coach Scott Satterfield picked up his first win at Louisville with a dominating 42-0 win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday night at Cardinal Stadium. The victory was the first shutout for the Cardinals since a 72-0 win over FIU in 2013.
2. Freshman Javian Hawkins ran for a career-high 123 yards — the second consecutive 100-yard game. He's the first UofL running back with back-to-back 100-yard games since 2016 and the third freshman running back with back-to-back 100-yard games, with Victor Anderson becoming the last in 2008.
3. The Cardinals lead the overall series versus Western Kentucky 20-12 after a 20-17 victory over the Hilltoppers at home last season. The Cardinals have won the last 10 meetings — the longest streak against any opponent. WKU's last win was a 21-17 decision in 1975.
4. Former Ballard star Marshon Ford impressed Scott Satterfield during spring practice and was awarded a scholarship. In his first two collegiate starts, Ford is second on the team with five receptions for 69 yards and a team-leading two touchdowns. He totaled his first two touchdowns of his career versus Eastern Kentucky — scoring on a pair of five-yard touchdown throws. He caught a career-best three passes for 26 yards against the Colonels. In the 35-17 loss to Notre Dame, Ford tallied his first two receptions for a total of 43 yards, averaging 21.5 yards per catch. The 6-foot-2 redshirt freshman caught a career long 36-yard pass in the second half and also added a reception for six yards.
5. Totaling 11 sacks in 12 games was definitely a problem, and the Cardinals have addressed it in a big way. In the first two games, the Cardinals have recorded eight sacks — five coming Saturday in the win over Eastern Kentucky to sit 10th nationally averaging 4.0 sacks per game. Six different players have recorded sacks in the first two contests, led by Rodjay Burns, who leads the team with a pair of sacks. Yasir Abdullah recorded his first career sack in the first quarter and Jared Goldwire recorded his first career sack in the second quarter in the win over Eastern Kentucky.
The Cardinals also have recorded 18 pressures on the quarterback, with defensive end Ty Tyler leading the way with three and defensive tackle G.G. Robinson and linebackers C.J. Avery and Nick Okeke with two.
