Cards Wrap Up Preseason Competition against Miami (Ohio)
August 25, 2019 | Field Hockey
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville field hockey team completed preseason competition with an exhibition victory against Miami (Ohio) Sunday afternoon at Trager Stadium.
Â
"The main piece, the regular piece, it was nice to play against a quality opponent," said UofL head coach Justine Sowry. "They're a great team. They show something completely different and we knew it coming in. We were able to deal with some parts of that, but not other parts. Lesson learned. We have to show different looks at practice, so we're better prepared for our next opponent, because we've just been playing against ourselves. They have some really talented individuals which we did not handle very well. Again, lessons learned. We also have to make sure we play Louisville field hockey and not play the style of our opponent. That's a massive lesson. There are some real positive things but plenty to take away from that as well."
Â
Senior Whena Munn put the Cardinals on the scoreboard in the second quarter to give Louisville a 1-0 edge after regulation. The teams also participated in a 7v7 overtime period which featured a goal by junior Mercedes Pastor.

The Cardinals will open the season on August 30 when Indiana visits Trager Stadium for the annual Battle of the Border. Admission is free.
