LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Looking to build off last season's NCAA championship appearance, University of Louisville's men's golf head coach Mark Crabtree announced the team's 2019-20 schedule.
The Cardinals will play five tournaments in the fall and six in the spring before closing the season at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship on April 17-20 in London, N.C.
"It's an outstanding schedule for the Cardinals," head coach Mark Crabtree said. It will prepare us nicely for the ACC and NCAA Championships. We wanted to face quality competition at every event which is the purpose of this highly competitive schedule."
Entering his 21st season, Crabtree kick offs the fall campaign with a pair of tournaments hosted by ACC opponents in Duke and Wake Forest, respectively.
The Cardinals open the year at the Duke Invitational on Sept. 14-15 and then travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 22-24, looking to defend their tournament championship.
The Cardinals won last year's tournament by firing a 30-under-par 810, and rising junior Matthias Schmid fired a career best 192 to win individual honors.
After playing at the Bearcat Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1 and the Bank of Tennessee on Oct. 11-13, the Cardinals return to Hawaii for the sixth-straight season to play in the Hoakalei Uh Intercollegiate on Oct. 27-29.
Louisville returns to action on Feb. 10-11 at the Mobile Sports Authority Invitational, where they finished as runners-up a year ago.
Hosted by UNC-Greensboro, the Cardinals will compete at the TPC Dorado Beach Collegiate in Puerto Rico on Feb. 23-25, which is a new event.
The Cardinals return to the General Hackler for the second-straight season on March 9-10 and compete the following week at the Louisiana Classics on March 16-17.
In the final two events of the regular season, the Cardinals compete at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational on March 29-30 and close the year at the Mason Rudolph Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee, on Apr. 3-5.
Three weeks later, the NCAA Regionals will be held May 11-13, at one of five sites: Auburn, San Diego, LSU, Clemson, and Oklahoma. The Cardinals will look to make their fifth NCAA Championship appearance on May 22-27 at the Grayhawk Country Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Cardinals return four of the five starters, including Schmid, who is one of the top players in the entire country.
"We have a very talented group of returnees," Crabtree said. "We always have high expectations and this year is no different. We are very capable of having a special season. This team works hard and are very determined to get have another great season."
