
Cardinal Women Wrap Up Day Two at the NCAA Outdoor Championships

Makenli Forrest led the Cardinals with an All-American performance in the hammer throw
AUSTIN, Texas – Ivine Chemutai, Gabriela Leon and Makenli Forrest kicked off the first day of the women's competition at the NCAA Track and Field Championships on Thursday at Mike A Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Forrest earned second team All-American honors in the hammer throw, finishing 15th overall with a throw of 62.50m/205-01. Forrest earned honorable mention honors last year in the hammer with an 18th place finish.
Forrest's season best throw of 63.08m/206-11 came at the Louisville Invitational in April. She finished with a throw of 62.12m/203-10 at the NCAA East Preliminary Round to earn her second straight NCAA Championship appearance.
Chemutai made her NCAA Championships debut with a time of 35:35.93 in the 10,000m. She finished 22nd overall and earned honorable mention accolades. Chemutai wraps up a breakout season after setting a new personal best at the NCAA East Preliminary Round with a time of 33:54.84 for her first NCAA Championship appearance.
To wrap up the day, Gabriela Leon earned honorable mention honors with a jump of 4.05m/13-03.50 in pole vault, finishing 19th overall. Leon wraps up an outstanding sophomore year, breaking the school record by clearing of 4.27m/14-00 at the Louisville Invitational. She cleared 4.17m/13-8.25 in Jacksonville, Fla. advancing to her second straight national championship appearance.
Martice Moore will compete in the 400m hurdles finals tomorrow at 8:57 p.m. CT. to wrap up the final day of the men's competition. The running events will be televised on ESPN beginning at 8:30 p.m.
