2019 Field Hockey Schedule Released

Cards will play 10 regular season matches at Trager Stadium
University of Louisville field hockey coach Justine Sowry has released the 2019 schedule which features 10 regular season matches at Trager Stadium. The Cardinals will face eight teams ranked in the top 20 including 2018 NCAA champion North Carolina and semifinalist Wake Forest.

The Cards will welcome former players back to Trager Stadium for the annual Alumnae Game on August 18 to prepare for three straight home games, starting with their season opener against Indiana on August 30.

In the first week of September, UMass and Kent State will also visit Trager Stadium before hitting the road for seven straight contests. UofL travel to East Lansing, Mich., to take on Michigan State and UC Davis followed by a midweek matchup at No. 21 Ohio State. The following weekend with mark the start of ACC play with a trip to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on top-ranked, national champion North Carolina. The final weekend of September will see the Cards take on No. 14 Boston College and Providence to close out the road swing.

Louisville will return to the friendly confines of Trager Stadium for a stretch of six straight home contests featuring five teams which finished the season in the top 25. NCAA semifinalist No. 12 Wake Forest and No. 9 Penn State will kick off the tough slate in the first weekend of October. The Cards will wrap up the home stand against No. 23 Stanford, Longwood and No. 7 Iowa before hitting the road for William & Mary and Duke.

The Cardinals will conclude the regular season on November 2 when they play host to No. 20 Syracuse.

The 2019 ACC Championship will take place Nov. 6-10 at Boston College.

The Cardinals finished the 2018 season with a 13-6 overall record and ranked No. 14 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll after earning the No. 3 seed in the 2018 ACC Championship. UofL will return 19 letterwinners from that team including NFHCA All-American Mercedes Pastor, fellow All-West Region selections Carter Ayars, Alli Bitting and Bethany Russ.

Justine Sowry enters her ninth season During that time, she has guided the Cardinals to 107 wins, four NCAA tournament appearances along with a conference title and a runner-up finish in the ACC Championship. In the eight seasons that Sowry has been at the helm, UofL has produced 12 NFHCA All-America selections and 32 All-Region team members.
