
Men's Golf No. 5 Seed at ACC Championships

The Cardinals have 11 top-five finishes this season.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 21 University of Louisville men's golf team will play in the 66th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Championships April 18-20 at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C. Louisville is the No. 5 seed at this year's event.
The championship begins Thursday at 9 a.m. ET, at the 7,102-yard, par-72 course at the Old North State Club in New London, North Carolina. No. 7 NC State, No. 8 Florida State, and No. 9 Virginia on hole 10 and No. 4 Clemson, No. 5 Louisville, and No. 6 North Carolina on hole 1. No. 10 Notre Dame, No. 11 Virginia Tech, and No. 12 Boston College start at 10 a.m. on hole 10, while No. 1 Wake Forest, defending champion and second-seed Georgia Tech, and No. 3 Duke start at 10 a.m. from hole 1.
Eight ACC teams are ranked in the Golfstat Top 30, with Wake Forest leading the way at No. 3 followed by No. 8 Georgia Tech, No. 9 Duke, No. 18 Clemson, No. 21 Louisville, No. 23 North Carolina, No. 26 NC State, and No. 29 Florida State.
This year marks the 22nd time overall that the league championship will be held at the Old North State Club. Wake Forest leads all schools with 18 league titles and 22 individual champions. Georgia Tech, which has won 15 outright ACC Championships and shared two more, has produced 11 individual medalists. North Carolina is third with 11 titles (10 outright), followed by Clemson with 10 (nine outright).
Entering the ACC championship, the Cardinals have plenty of momentum after completing one of its most successful seasons in school history. Appearing in 11 events of the course of the fall and spring, the Cardinals were able to secure top-five finishes, including a win at the Old Town Club Collegiate and fifth second-place endings.
The Cardinals will be sending sophomore Matthias Schmid, who ranks fourth in the ACC with a 69.4 stroke average. The native of Germany owns six top-five finishes, with a win coming at the Old Town Club Collegiate. Freshman Jiri Zuska, who is second on the team with a 71.13 stroke average, is playing his best golf, posting four top-10 finishes in his last six events, closing the season by finishing fourth at the Stitch Intercollegiate.
Junior John Murphy is third on the team with a 71.19 stroke average, while Devin Morley is having his best campaign with his 72.29 average. Trevor Johnson rounds out the lineup with his 73.10 stroke mark.
The Cardinals are making their fifth appearance in the championship, looking to crack the top five for the first time since joining the league. Louisville is coming off back-to-back 11th-place finishes.
