Wasike Adds Another All-American Honor to Her Accolades
March 08, 2019 | Track & Field
Wasike finished ninth in the 5,000 meters on Friday Night
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In her first appearance at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, University of Louisville's Dorcas Wasike earned second team All-American honors in the 5,000 meters. The redshirt sophomore is now a two-time Cross Country All-American, an Outdoor Track All-American, and now an Indoor Track All-American.
" Dorcas lined up against the best women in the country today and gave a tremendous effort," said head coach Dale Cowper. "While it's not the result she was hoping for, we are proud of the way she represents our program and the university. I don't know many college students that can be competitive at an All-American level for 10 months out of the year while pursuing a nursing degree, but that's what she has been able to do."
Wasike clocked a time of 15:55.84 to finish ninth, wrapping up her second career indoor season. Wisconsin's Alicia Monson won the race with a time of 15:31.26.
Wasike started off the indoor season by breaking the school record in the 5,000 meters at the BU Season Opener in December with a time of 15:14.78. She finished as the ACC runner-up in a closely contested race. Wasike won the 3,000 meters the next night at the ACC Championships with a time of 9:24.05. She earned first team All-ACC honors in the 5,000 meters and 3,000 meters.
Makenli Forrest will compete in weight throw tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. to wrap up the indoor season for Louisville.
