
Schmid Named to the Palmer Cup Squad

Matthias Schmid is the third UofL player to be selected to the event.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's golfer Matthias Schmid was selected to the Arnold Palmer Cup team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced.
A native of Maxhvette, Germany, Schmid earned a spot on the international team, which will compete against a team from the United State at The Alotian Club in Roland, Arkansas on June 7-9.
On the international side, five players return from last summer's matches, including Luis Gagne (LSU/Costa Rica), Jiwon Jeon (Alabama/Repulic of Korea), Jovan Reula (Auburn/South Africa), Patty Tavatanakit (UCLA/Thailand), and Albane Valenzuela (Stanford/Switzerland). International men's ranking selections were also  Chun An Yu (Arizona State/Taiwan), Peng Pichaikool (Mississippi State/Thailand), Sandy Scott (Texas Tech/Scotland), Ivan Ramirez (Texas Tech/Colombia), and Kengo Aoshima (Wake Forest/Japan).

Schmid is the third UofL player to compete at the Palmer Cup, joining Derek Fathauer in 2008 and Robin Sciot-Siegrist in 2016.

The team leader in stroke average at 68.75, Schmid has paced the Cardinals this year, winning one event and finishing in the top 10 on six occasions. He picked up his first career win at the Old Town Club Collegiate on Sept. 25.
