Salle registers a singles win for the Cards
The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 4-1 at No. 27 NC State Sunday afternoon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. The Cardinals (12-4, 1-4 ACC) will return to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to take on Florida State Friday at 3:30 p.m.
"NC State was very clutch today," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "It was 4-3 on every doubles court and they found a way to win. Fabien played very well at #4 singles and Chris played solid today as well. The ACC did not do us any favors in scheduling. We played 4 of the top 5 ACC teams in the National Rankings and 3 on the road. We have to weather this storm and continue to believe in ourselves and put in more hard work as we get ready for Florida State on Friday."
The Wolfpack (11-6, 2-1 ACC) took an early lead with doubles wins on courts 2 and 3. Ivan Saveljic and Igor Saveljic defeated Louisville senior Federico Gomez and Clement Filho 6-3 at the three-spot and Tadas Babelis and Georgiy Malyshev secured the point with a 6-4 win over senior George Hedley and freshman Alex Wesbrooks at No. 2. Louisville senior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and freshman Fabien Salle were tied 5-5 with Alexis Galarneau and Michael Ogden when the point was decided.
NC State increased its lead with a singles win on court three where Babelis defeated Sergio Hernandez 6-2, 6-1. Malyshev added another point with a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Wesbrooks at the six-spot. Salle put the Cardinals on the scoreboard when he beat Yannai Barkai 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. The match was decided on court 1 where No. 25-ranked Galarneau picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Morin-Kougoucheff.
