Schmid is Tied for Fifth after Two Rounds at the General Hackler Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â Matthias Schmid of the University of Louisville men's golf team is tied for fifth place to help lead the Cardinals to a fourth-place standing after two rounds of the General Hackler Championship at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Collectively, the Cardinals played well, firing a 14-under par 562 to close the rounds just eight shots behind the current leader North Florida, which shot a 22-under par 554. Liberty and Wake Forest are tied for second at 18-under-par. Kentucky is in fifth at five shots behind the Cardinals.
The Cardinals fired an opening-round 4-under-par 284, but responded by carding a 10-under-par 278 to be in contention heading into round three. The Cardinals, who are paired with Kentucky and Georgia, will begin play Tuesday morning at 8:50 a.m.
Schmid continues to play at a high level. After opening play with an even-round 72, the sophomore responded by shooting a 6-under-par 66 to sit five shots off the lead. North Florida's Travis Trace is the leader at 11-under-par.
Jiri Zuska opened the round with a 4-under-par 68, but struggled in round two with a 1-over-par 73 to end play in a tie for 11th place. John Murphy is in a tie for 17th after identical rounds of 71.
Trevor Johnson is tied for 23rd after shooting a 1-under-par 143 and Devin Morley rounded out the top five after a 5-over-par 149.
