Cardinals Set to Host Syracuse and Clemson

ACC competition continues at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center
The University of Louisville women's tennis team is set to host a pair of ACC foes when Syracuse visits Friday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. before Clemson arrives Feb. 24 at noon, both at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

The Cardinals are 9-2 overall in the dual season and 1-0 in the ACC with a win over Pitt. Louisville is coming off a pair of road losses last weekend when it fell to Nebraska (4-2) and Wichita State (4-1). UofL is led by Aleksandra Mally at No. 1 singles, who posts a 6-4 mark there. No. 114-ranked Nikolina Jovic has a 10-1 mark at the No. 3 slot. Sena Suswam is 3-0 at No. 2 and Raven Neely is 5-0 at No. 3 singles In doubles, Nikolina Jovic and Raven Neely are 2-2 at No. 1 and Aleksandra Mally and Diana Wong have a 4-1 mark at No. 3 doubles.

The Orange are 6-4 on the season and 0-2 in the ACC. SU opened the season with four straight wins, including a 4-3 upset of No. 9-ranked Michigan. The Orange fell against their first ACC foe, when it dropped a 4-3 decision to Virginia. In the next match, SU fell 4-3 to Boston College. After the loss to the Eagles, SU fell to No. 7 Pepperdine (4-3) and No. 16 Ohio State. The Orange rebounded with two straight wins against Colorado (6-1) and Harvard (6-1).  The Orange are led by No. 1 singles player Gabriela Knutson, who is 7-3 at No. 1. Knutson and Miranda Ramirez join forces at No. 1 doubles, where they have posted a 6-3 mark, Knutson is coming off an All-American junior season and is ranked No. 48. Her teammate, Ramirez, is slotted at No. 67 and both players recorded 40 wins last season.

The Cardinals then host Clemson on Sunday at ssssss The Clemson women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to Wake Forest on the road in Winston-Salem, N.C. last week.With the loss, the Tigers move to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in ACC play. Fernanda  Navarro is ranked 64th nationally in the ITA singles poll, and has a 5-2 record in dual singles matches on the season. On Jan. 31, Navarro earned her career-best singles upset, defeating 25th-ranked Paige Cline of South Carolina in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Navarro and Marie-Alexandre Leduc  are ranked second in the nation as a doubles team. The pair is 6-1 in dual matches and has a 18-4 overall record thus far in 2018-19, which includes winning the National Championship doubles title at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships to conclude the Fall 2018 season.

Louisville will be on the road after this weekend for a three match road trip, traveling to North Carolina State, North Carolina and Notre Dame.
