Claire Chaussee leads with 10 kills
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Claire Chaussee had 10 kills and Anna Stevenson added eight blocks and seven kills to lead the University of Louisville to a 25-18, 25-12, 25-13 sweep of Virginia in ACC volleyball action Friday night in L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

UofL improves to 15-4 and 8-1 in the ACC after hitting .250 with three aces and 12 blocks. The Cards got seven kills from Amber Stivrins, who also added three blocks. Shannon Shields had 28 assists and Alexa Hendricks had two aces. Virginia drops to 9-13 and 1-8 in the league after hitting -.040 with one ace and four blocks. The Cavs were led by Sarah Billiard's nine kills.

In the first set, the Cavaliers stayed within four points most of the first set, but .364 hitting helped the Cards bust open a six point lead late on a three straight UVA hitting errors to go up 22-16. Two more hitting errors on the Cavs gave UofL set point and Amber Stivrins connected on a set from Shannon Shields to put the set away 25-18.

In the second set, UofL popped out to a 6-1 lead early on aggressive serving by Amaya Tillman. Later, the Cards used an 11-0 run with Alexa Hendricks serving to take a 22-10 lead before rolling to a 25-12 win and a 2-0 set lead going into the break.  Chaussee had the hot hitting hand with six kills in the set.

In the third set, Virginia had the lead early but the Cardinals tied at six and then seven before taking the lead for good at 8-7 on an ace by Alexis Hamilton. Â Virginia used its second timeout trailing by six on a kill by Claire Chaussee to go down 17-11. The Cavaliers would score just twice more as the Cards rolled to the 25-13 win on a kill by Anna Stevenson.

UofL will face its sternest test of the season as No. 3 Pitt comes to town with an undefeated ACC mark a 19-1 record and a nine-match winning streak. The game will be Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m.
