Cardinals Open 2019 Indoor Season with Nine Wins

Louisville wins six field events and three track events in season opener
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The University of Louisville track and field teams opened up the 2019 season with nine wins at the Gene Edmonds Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
"We had a great opening competition for both squads today at Purdue," said head coach Dale Cowper. "We'll continue to focus on making progress each week throughout the indoor season. If we are able to continue preparing and trusting the process then we'll see some highlights from our students this winter."
Louisville finished with six wins in the field events. Makenli Forrest opened up the meet with a win in the women's weight throw to start her sophomore year. She won the event with a throw of 21.50m/70-6.50. Morgan Zacharias started her senior season with a win in the pole vault. Zacharias cleared a personal best of 4.15m/13-7.25 for the win.
Christian Buckley claimed the title in the men's shot put. Buckley finished with a throw of 17.08m/56-0.50 to start the year. Newcomer Rashida Harris started her Cardinal career off with a win in the women's shot put. Harris finished with a throw of 15.15m/49-8.50 to help the Cards sweep the shot put.
Newcomer Anthony McRoberts won the high jump with a personal best jump of 2.16m/7-1. Renate van Tonder rounded out the field event wins in the long jump. She finished with a personal best jump of 6.11m/20-0.50. Louisville swept the women's long jump with Alexis Gibbons and Gabriela Leon finishing second and third respectively.
On the track, Brooke Raglin tallied her first win in the 60 meters. She finished with a time of 6.59. Louisville swept the 3000 meters with wins on the men's and women's side. Aurilla Wilson ran a personal best time of 10:00.26 to cruise to the win. Cameron Stephens also ran a personal best time of 8:39.56 to edge out the competition for the win.
Louisville will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Notre Dame Invitational.
