Louisville posts seven wins on the final day of the Hawaii Intercollegiate Invitational
The University of Louisville men's tennis team tallied seven wins on the final day of the Hawaii Intercollegiate Invitational. Following the tournament, Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff, Sergio Hernandez Ramirez and Fabien Salle were named to the all-tournament team.
"Sergio did a good job in winning his doubles and singles matches today," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "He comes with a solid singles game and he is learning a lot about how to play doubles at this level. We ended the final day winning six of our nine singles matches which pleased me because we were playing our third straight day in hot, sunny and humid conditions."
The Cards got singles from senior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and freshmen Fabien Salle, Sergio Ramirez, Alex Wesbrooks, David Mizraho and Juan Manuel Paredes. In doubles action the duo of Federico Gomez and Sergio Ramirez notched a 6-1 victory over Hawaii's Chi-Hua Iu and Tristan Martin.
"We achieved my three goals for this trip which was A) getting at least three matches for each player, B) making sure each player is mentally ready for the team season and C) build a strong sense of unity in our program," said Ecarma. "These players had an amazing student-athlete experience and they will never forget this week."
"I am happy for our team this week especially Fabian Salle, Chris Morin-Kougoucheff and Sergio Hernandez Ramirez who were selected to the All-Tournament Team," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "All three of these guys competed hard and won 3 matches. Their tennis improved and they have momentum going into Friday's double header home opener."
The Cardinals (1-0) will return to action on Friday when they play host to Butler at 12 p.m. and Lipscomb at 5 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
