Cardinals Open Indoor Track and Field Season at the Gene Edmunds Cup

Louisville begins the 2019 season on Saturday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's and women's indoor track and field teams open their 2019 season Saturday at the Gene Edmonds Open in West Lafayette, Ind. Louisville will be competing against host Purdue along with Alabama State, IUPUI, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, and Western Kentucky.

Field events will open the all-day competition, starting with the men's weight throw at 10:30 a.m. The top nine performers from each field event will compete in the finals. Running events will start at 12:15 p.m. with the women's 60-meter dash. The competition will conclude with the men's 4x400m relay at 5:15 p.m.

Dorcas Wasike, the 2018 ACC Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Year, opened her indoor season in December, setting a new school record in the 5,000 meters event with a time of 15:25.35 at the BU Season Opener.

The Cardinals return sophomores Makenli Forrest and Gabriela Leon who both made NCAA Championship appearances in 2018. Alexis Gibbons also returns for her junior campaign after earning Indoor All-American honors in 2018.

Junior transfer Anthony McRoberts will make his Louisville debut on Saturday after being named to the Missouri Valley All-Conference Indoor Team his freshman and sophomore seasons at Illinois State. In addition, the Cardinals will have a strong freshman class competing this weekend.
