Simon Zach, Jiri Zuska and John Murphy will represent the Cardinals.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Three University of Louisville men's golfers will be represented at the 2018 World Amateur Team Championships in Maynooth, Ireland on Sept. 5-8.
Â
Senior Simon Zach and freshman Jiri Zuska are scheduled to represent the Czech Republic, while junior John Murphy will compete for his home country of Ireland.
Â
"This is an exciting time for each of these young men to get selected to represent their country in this event," UofL head coach Mark Crabtree said. "I am sure this is an experience they will never forget! We look forward to following throughout the competition."
Â
Zach, who is one of the team's top returning players, was an all-ACC Academic selection after finishing third on the team with a 72.41 stroke average. He finished under par in six events, including an incredible 21-under-par to win the Warrior Princeville Invitational. Zuska joins the squad this fall after competing for the Czech National team since the age of 13.
Â
Murphy, who hails from Kinsale, Ireland, appeared in nine events and finished with a 74.37 stroke average. He finished with a season-best 11-place ending at the Louisville Cardinal Intercollegiate.
Â
The World Amateur Team Championships are a biennial international amateur golf competition rotated among three geographic zones of the world: Asia-Pacific, American and European-African.
Â
Each team has two or three players and plays 18-holes of stroke play for four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team's score for the championship.
