McFerran Named ACC Defensive Player of the Week

The University of Louisville's Ayeisha McFerran was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 16 as announced by the league office. This marks the first weekly honor of the season for McFerran and the fourth in her career.

McFerran collected six saves as Louisville posted back-to-back shutout wins against a pair of ranked teams on the weekend. The Larne, Northern Ireland, senior had five saves Friday, helping the Cardinals to their first ACC win of the season as they defeated No. 9 Boston College 1-0. McFerran also had a crucial save to ensure Louisville's 1-0 win on Sunday against No. 11 Northwestern.

The three-time NFHCA All-American and All-ACC selection stands second on Louisville's list for career shutouts with 18 and stands third on the all-time list for wins with 41.

The seventh-ranked Cardinals (6-2) will return to action next weekend when they open a four-game road stretch with an ACC matchup at No. 24 Wake Forest on Friday followed by a visit to Appalachian State on Sunday.
