LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's golf team opens the 2018 fall season by hosting the Louisville Cardinals Challenge on Friday-Sunday at the UofL Golf Club in Simpsonville, Kentucky.
The event on the par-72, 7,101-yard course features a competitive 16-school field, with Friday and Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. and the final round starting at 8:30 a.m. Teams will play 18 holes on each of the three days. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
Two teams are in the top 20 in the latest Golfstat.com rankings, with a total of six programs listed in the top 50: No. 17 Duke, No. 20 North Carolina, No. 23 USF, No. 27 Kentucky, No. 28 Wake Forest, No. 48 Louisville.
All eight Louisville golfers are participating in the Cardinals Challenge. The Cardinals' scoring lineup consists of Jiri Zuska, Matthias Schmid, Simon Zach, John Murphy, and Trevor Johnson. Zuska will be making his UofL debut after returning from the World Amateur Championships.
Keegan de Lange, Devin Morely, and Hugh O'Hare will compete as individuals.
"We're excited to start the 2018-19 season here at home with the UL Cardinal Intercollegiate, head coach Mark Crabtree said. "We have an outstanding field of teams which includes four Atlantic Coast Conference schools and two Southeastern Conference schools."
The Cardinals, who are coming off their 10th appearance in the NCAA Regionals, return two of their top three players from that squd. Schmid is the top returner, finishing with a 71.72 stroke average and one top-five finish. He shot an 18-under-par to finish in a tie for third at the Warrior Princeville Invitational.
Zach posted the third-highest stroke average at 72.41 and recorded the only win last year. The Prague, Czech Republic, native won the Warrior Princeville Invitational by carding a 21-under-par 195.
First-round action begins Friday at 9 a.m., with the Cardinals paired with Duke, USF and Nebraska.
