No. 6 Cardinals Earn Exhibition Win Over No. 2 Indiana

Schmitt scores only goal of the match in the 34th minute, Meyer and Gelnovatch combine for the shutout
WESTFIELD, Ind. - Senior Tate Schmitt converted the only goal of the match as the No. 6 University of Louisville men's soccer team claimed a 1-0 victory over No. 2 Indiana in Wednesday night's exhibition match at Grand Park.
Schmitt connected on a volley from 35 yards away in the 34th minute of action to lift the Cardinals into the lead. The goal by the All-ACC performer proved to be enough as sophomore goalkeepers Will Meyer and Jake Gelnovatch combined for the shutout. Meyer worked a clean sheet in the opening 45 minutes while Gelnovatch closed the match with a strong second half for Louisville in the first of its two preseason matches in 2018.
"It was an important test for us in the preseason. Indiana is a very good team and they put us under some pressure, which is what we needed," said Cardinals head coach Ken Lolla. "Our guys competed well and did well in getting a result. There was a lot to build on and clearly some areas we will improve."
Indiana finished with a 12-6 advantage in shots, while the Cardinals had a 3-1 edge in saves. The Hoosiers tallied five corner kicks and Louisville totaled three corner kick chances.
The No. 6 Cardinals will close their preseason slate against Evansville on Saturday at 5 p.m., at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. Louisville will kick off the 2018 season against St. Bonaventure on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m., ET at Lynn Stadium.Â

Men's soccer single match tickets are priced at $12 per ticket for reserved chairback seats, $6 per ticket for general admission/berm seats and $4 per ticket for groups of 10 or more. Reserved chairback season tickets are priced at $100 for adults, $320 for the Family Four Pack and $80 for faculty/staff. General admission/berm seating for season tickets are priced at $50 for adults, $200 for the Family Four Pack and $50 for faculty/staff.
