Murphy captures championship in a playoff.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's golfer John Murphy began his summer season in impressive fashion by capturing the 2018 St. Andrews on Sunday.
Murphy defeated Jannik de Bruyn of Germany in a playoff to capture a title in his first event of the summer. Murphy fired a 9-under-par 278 in the four-round event.
The sophomore from Kinsale, Ireland, fired a 70-66-71-71=278 for the win at one of the premier events this summer.
Appearing in nine events for the Cardinals this season, Murphy posted a 74.37 stroke average.
