
Schmid Earns All-Region Accolades

Matthias Schmid finishes with the top stroke average as a true freshman.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's golfer Matthias Schmid was named to the PING all-region team, the GCAA announced on Saturday.
Schmid, a true freshman, was the top player for the Cardinals this season, finishing with the team's top stroke average at 71.72. Appearing in all 13 events, Schmid posted two top-five finishes and three in the top 10.Â
The Maxhvette, Germany product put together his best performance at the Princeville Warrior Invitational by putting together a three-day score of 18-under-par to finish in a tie for third. He fired 66-66-66=195 to put together the second-best round in school history.
Schmid flew out of the gates, posting a pair of top-10 finishes in his first two events, ending in a tie for fourth at the Rod Morris Invitational and sixth at the Bearcat Invitational.
