
Ferguson and Hensley Earn NFCA All-Southeast Region Honors

Caitlin Ferguson picks up her first All-Region selection, Hensley takes home her second
The University of Louisville's Caitlin Ferguson and Megan Hensley have earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Southeast Region honors as announced by the organization on Thursday. Ferguson was named to the second team while Hensley garnered third team honors.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division I All-American squads which will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 30, via NFCA.org.

Ferguson (Versailles, Ky.) was named to the second team as a utility player. The sophomore started 49 games and split time between third base, short stop, right field and first base. She stood second on the team with 40 RBIs, four home runs and 10 doubles and scored 31 runs on the season while finishing the year with a .317 batting average. She and Hensley were tied with a team-best 12 multiple RBI games. Â

This marks the second NFCA All-Southeast Region selection for Hensley who was named to the second team in 2016. The junior from Ashland, Ky., earned All-ACC first team honors this season after leading the Cardinals with 49 RBIs, nine home runs and standing second on the team with a .355 batting average. The utility player/pitcher registered a 17-8 record in the circle with 138 strikeouts in 184.0 innings and collected ACC Pitcher of the Week, NFCA, USA Softball and espnW Player of the Week honors on May 1.

Hensley is ranked 10th on Louisville's list for career RBIs (129) and home runs (25). She also stands among the program's top 10 in several pitching categories including: wins (41), saves (eight), appearances (94), innings pitched (436.0), strikeouts (281) and complete games (27).

The Cardinals finished the season with a 33-20 overall record and reached the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship before falling 7-4 to eventual champion No. 7/10 Florida State.
