Women's Tennis Will Face Virginia Tech in First Round of ACCs

The Cards and the Hokies will square off 9 a.m. on Wednesday in Cary, N.C.
The University of Louisville women's tennis team will face Virginia Tech Wednesday morning in the first round of the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina. Â
Earlier this season, the Cardinals dropped the doubles point but roared back in doubles for the upset win 4-3 over then-ranked No. 36 Virginia Tech at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.Â

Top-seeded Duke will begin their quest for the ACC Championship on Friday, when they will take on the winner of Thursday's second-round match between No. 8 NC State and No. 9 Clemson. Duke will enter the championship in search of its 18th ACC title.

Wednesday's first-round action will start off with No. 12 Louisville facing No. 13 Virginia Tech at 9 a.m., No. 10 Boston College matching up against No. 15 Pitt at 9 a.m., and No. 11 Wake Forest taking on No. 14 Notre Dame in an 11:30 a.m. match.

The NC State/Clemson second-round match opens the slate on Thursday at 9 a.m, along with No. 5 Florida State awaiting the winner of Louisville/Virginia Tech. No. 6 Virginia will take on the winner of Wake Forest/Notre Dame, and No. 7 Syracuse will face the winner of Boston College/Pitt in a pair of 11:30 a.m. matches.

Teams receiving double-byes to Friday's quarterfinal round along with Duke include No. 2 Georgia Tech, two-time reigning ACC Champion No. 3 North Carolina and No. 4 Miami.

Shawn Kenney returns to handle play-by-play of the ACC Tennis Championships, with live coverage set from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on the tournament's final two days – Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29. Former Duke tennis standout and ESPN anchor Prim Siripipat will also be on hand at Cary Tennis Park to work as analyst for the tournament. Melanie Newman is back for her second year as sideline reporter.

Kenney has covered college basketball and football on ESPN and headed up coverage of swimming, wrestling, track and field, in addition to tennis on ACC Network Extra each of the previous three Championships. The Council Bluffs, Iowa, native is a 1999 University of Iowa Broadcast Journalism graduate.

Siripipat attended Saddlebrook Preparatory School, where she trained with Jennifer Capriati, Andy Roddick, Martina Hingis and Mardy Fish. She traveled the world with the U.S. National Team and eventually finished in the top 10 in the country for players aged 18 and under. She attended Duke on a full scholarship. The Blue Devil women's team was ranked among the top 10 and won the 2003 Indoor National Championship her senior year.
