
Men's Golf Posts Top Five Finish at Mason Rudolph Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's golf team posted a top-five finish, while freshman Matthias Schmid used a late charge to post a strong showing at the Mason Rudolph Championship, which concluded play on Sunday afternoon at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
Rain postponed play on Saturday, pushing the final round until Sunday.
The Cardinals finished in a three-way tie for fifth place with East Tennessee State and Georgia. The Cardinals fired a 9-over par 294 on Sunday to finish at 301-288-294=883.
Vanderbilt swept both the team and individual titles at its home tournament. The third-ranked Commodores went low on Sunday at 6-under 278 to win by three shots over No. 7 Alabama and eight strokes over No. 46 Liberty. Vanderbilt totaled a team score of 1-over-par 853 (288-287-278).
Schmid posted his seventh top-20 finish of the season, ending the tournament in a tie for 18th overall. He fired 7-over-par 73-72-75=220. Nicolas Platret finished in the top 25 by placing in a tie for 23rd by carding an 8-over-par 78-73-70=221. He was the top player on Sunday by shooting a 1-under par 70.
Keegan de Lange tied for 2th overall after he shot a 9-over-par 78-67-77=222, while Simon Zach moved into a tie for 35th after he fired a 76-76-73=225. John Murphy rounded out the top 5 by tying for 50th after totaling a total score of 15-over par.
Louisville returns to action next weekend as the Cardinals begin play at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship on Friday in New London, N.C.
