Men's Tennis Travels to No. 19 Notre Dame

Cards take on ACC foe No. 19 Notre Dame Saturday at 12 p.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following a historic 6-1 win over three-time defending national champion Virginia, the University of Louisville men's tennis team will travel to South Bend, Ind. for an ACC matchup against No. 19 Notre Dame on Saturday at 12 p.m.
"Since our first season in the Big East Conference to now in the ACC, we consider Notre Dame to be our biggest rival," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We have played them in conference Finals and even the NCAA tournament. Every match is so hard fought and and we have had some truly epic battles. I have the utmost respect for them."

With the victory over the Cavaliers on Friday night, the No. 38 Cards (9-3, 1-0 ACC) extended their winning streak to six straight matches. Against Virginia, senior Ciro Lampasas clinched the match for Louisville with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 win at the No. 6. Parker Wynn capped off the victory with his come-from-behind 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over No. 18 Aswin Lizen to remain undefeated in dual match action and earn ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors.

The reigning ACC Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn lead the Cards with an overall record of 19-8 in doubles. The 22nd-ranked pair has compiled an 8-3 record in dual match play and are 2-1 against nationally ranked competitors. Federico Gomez and Brandon Lancaster are undefeated at No. 2 doubles with three wins.

In the latest ITA rankings, Wynn was tabbed at No. 90 with a singles record of 9-0 through 12 dual matches. Federico Gomez has registered eight wins with a 2-1 record at No. 2 and 5-2 record at No. 3. Nicolas Rouanet follows just behind with a record of 6-3.

Last Meeting: April 27, 2017 – Louisville won 4-3 over the Fighting Irish in the second round of the ACC Championships.
Scouting the Fighting Irish: In their latest outing, No. 19 Notre Dame (8-6, 1-0 ACC) fell 4-1 to sixth-ranked Ilinois. Richard Ciamarra has the most dual match singles wins for the Fighting Irish with a record of 10-3. In doubles, Brandon Kempin and Tristan McCormick received the nod at No. 55 in the latest ITA rankings with a 4-6 record at No. 1. Ciamarra and Matt Gamble are 7-4 through 13 matches, splitting time between No. 2 and No. 3. In singles, No. 33 Alex Lebedev is 4-4 at No. 1.

Up Next: The Cards return to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Sunday, March 18 for a doubleheader against the Boston College Eagles and the Detroit Mercy Titans. Louisville will face the Eagles at 10 a.m., followed by the Titans at 5 p.m.
