The Cardinals have won five straight matches.
"Today was an important day for us," said UofL head Coach Rex Ecarma. "Tonight, we needed some heroics in that doubles point. We were down at match point, we've won 12 or 13 doubles points in a row and that was going to end the streak, but Clement Filho and Fredrik Moe played with a lot of mental toughness and a lot of heart to give us that doubles point. Parker Wynn, George Hedley, Clement, and Nicolas Rouanet played with a lot of pride tonight, so I'm really pleased with those guys."
In doubles, the 14th-ranked duo of Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn capped off a successful weekend with a 6-1 win over Justin Ghavami and Rossouw Norval at No. 1 to give the Cards the initial advantage. The Bulldogs countered with a 6-1 victory on court two as Eduardo Lourido and Max Rebol topped Federico Gomez and Brandon Lancaster 6-1. With the doubles point on the line, Moe and Filho grinded out a 7-6 (7-5) win over Alexsandar Petrovic and Hugo Moreira at the three-spot to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
In singles, No. 98 Wynn extended Louisville's lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lourido on court two. Hedley then increased the Cardinals' score to 3-0, defeating Moreira 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5. Almost simultaneously, Rouanet clinched the match with a decisive 6-0, 6-0 victory over Petrovic at the four-spot.
With the match already decided, Morin-Kougoucheff recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Ghavami at No. 1 to put Louisville up 5-0. On court six, Filho triumphed over Max Rebol by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Gomez completed the sweep for the Cardinals with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3) win over Norval at No. 3.
Up next, the Cardinals will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on No. 20 Florida State in the first of four road matches. The match is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
