LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Junior Simon Zach and freshman Matthias Schmid of the University of Louisville men's golf team fired a 1-under-par 71 to pace the Cardinals in the opening round of the 2018 Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.

Both players shot 71 in the opening round of action to pace the Cardinals, who begin second round action on Tuesday morning. The Cardinals are paired with the College of Charleston and Wisconsin and will tee off at 9:50 a.m.
Keegan de Lange was steady most of the day shooting a 1-over par 73, while Nicolas Platret shot a 3-over-par 75 and freshman John Murphy cared a 5-over par 77 to round out the top five for the Cardinals.
Missouri shot 10-under (278) in the opening round and has a three shot lead over Kentucky, Iowa State, Kent State and Ole Miss, who all shot 281 (-7) on Sunday. Matt Echelmeier of Missouri has the individual lead at 5-under after shooting 67. 33 players in the 75-man field are within four shots of him.
