Carsen Cassell leads the Cardinals on the first day of competition
TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Louisville track and field team wrapped up the first day at the Baldy Castillo Invitational with five top 10 finishes on the women's side. Junior Carsen Cassell led the Cardinals with a third place finish in the hammer throw.
"The women's hammer throwers were able to get our outdoor season off to a great start with big personal bests from Carsen and Makenli," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Carsen was able to break into our top five all-time performers in the event and Makenli established a new freshman record. Both performances are quality early season marks that should be able to grow as the season progresses."
Cassell finished third with a personal best toss of 60.44m/198'3" in the hammer throw. Her mark also ranks her among the all-time top five performances in Louisville history. Coming off an impressive indoor season, Forrest set a new freshman record in the hammer with a mark of 58.38m/191'6".
"Emma Ison was also impressive in her first competition," said Cowper. " I am confident that she will continue to grow as her conversion from our rowing team last year to the javelin squad this year progresses."
Ison finished ninth in her first career javelin competition. She finished with a mark of 41.70m/136'9". Wrapping up the top 10 finishes was Bailey Davis and Aurilla Wilson in the 1500m. Davis finished eighth with a time of 4:37.60 while Wilson finished 10th with a time of 4:39.05.
The Cardinals will wrap up competition in the Baldy Castillo Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
