Two Men's Golfers Rank in the Top-15 of the Palmer Cup Rankings

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Freshman Matthias Schmid and junior Simon Zach of the University of Louisville men's golf team are in the top-15 of the Team International men's standings for the 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup.
The top six golfers from the final ranking in the spring from both the United States and International men and women—12 total golfers—shall be among the 24 individuals selected to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup July 6-8 at the Evian Resort Golf Club.
The 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup will be the first using the expanded format of United States men's and women's collegiate golfers versus their counterparts from around the world.
Hailing from Maxhvette, Germany, Schmid ranks No. 10 in the Palmer Cup. He was second on the team with a 69.83 stroke average, posting two finishes in the top five – finishing in a tie for third at the Warrior Princeville with a score of 198.
Zach, who stands No. 13 in the rankings, has been Louisville's top golfer this season, posting a scoring average of 69.39 with nine rounds in the 60's and one tournament win. He fired a school-best 195 to win the Warrior Princeville Invitational on Oct. 29-31.
The remaining six men's and women's spots for the United States will consist of five committee selections, including at least one non-Division I golfer, and a coaches pick. The balance of the International team will include the men's and women's winners of The R&A Scholars Tournament, four committee selections and a coaches pick.
