
Schmid Named to the Fred Haskins Award Watch List

Matthias Schmid is considered one of the top 20 players in the nation.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Matthias Schmid of the University of Louisville men's golf team was named to the The Fred Haskins Award Presented by Stifel, which is given annually to the best college golfer, as voted by players, coaches and media.
The Maxhvette, Germany, native has guided the Cardinals to one of their best fall performances in school history, picking up a tournament win and a pair of second-place finishes.
Schmid, the No. 15 ranked golfer by Golfweek.com, leads the Cardinals with an impressive 67.87 stroke average. He won his first career tournament at the Old Town Club Collegiate, finished third at the Louisville Cardinals Challenge, and fourth at the Bank of Tennessee Invitational.
Haskins Award winners over the years include such notables as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Luke Donald. Oregon's Norman Xiong won last year's award.
