
Schmid to Compete at Sun Bowl Classic

The sophomore leads the team with a 67.87 stroke average
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Matthias Schmid of the University of Louisville men's golf team will compete against some of the best collegiate golfers when the sophomore participates in the 2018 Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic on November 18-20 at the El Paso Country Club in El Paso, Texas.
The Maxhvette, Germany, native has guided the Cardinals to one of their best fall performances in school history, picking up a tournament win and a pair of second-place finishes.
Schmid, the No. 15 ranked golfer by Golfweek.com, leads the Cardinals with an impressive 67.87 stroke average. He won his first career tournament at the Old Town Club Collegiate, finished third at the Louisville Cardinals Challenge, and fourth at the Bank of Tennessee Invitational.
The Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic is one of the premier college golf tournaments in the country. Some of golf's brightest stars have traveled to El Paso to compete in the tournament since its inaugural year in 1974. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler are just a handful of past participants who went on to have successful PGA careers. Sun Bowl All-America Golf Classic Alumni have combined to win 54 majors championships and have earned over $2.12 billion in career earnings.
