Schmid's Top-10 Finish Paces Cardinals at the Intercollegiate at the Grove

Schmid fired a 3-under-par to finish in a tie for eighth,
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Matthias Schmid posted his sixth top-10 finish to lead the University of Louisville men's golf team at the Intercollegiate at The Grove. Schmid opened the fall season with his third top-10 ending by closing the tournament in a tie for eighth and pace the Cardinals for the week.
Louisville finished fourth in the 13-team field, by carding 288-282-290=860, just 11 shots off the lead. Liberty topped South Florida by three strokes to claim the team crown., while Purdue was third and Mississippi was fifth.
Louisville resumes its fall slate with the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate Oct.12-14.
This week, Schmid was solid with rounds of 71-74-68=213 and a 3-under on the scorecard. Tuesday's round featured six birdies and an eagle to lead the Cardinals to another strong finish. The Cardinals have fared well this fall, by winning one tournament and finishing second.
John Murphy posted his third top-20 finish of his career, tying for 15thafter shooting 73-71-72=216.
Jiri Zuska, who narrowly missed tying the course record on Monday, struggled by shooting a 5-over-par 77 to tie for 21st. He shot 75-66-77=218.
Simon Zach tied for 37thby shooting a 6-over-par 222, carding a 69-71=82=222, while Devin Morley finished 56thafter posting scores of 78-77-73=228.
In addition to the Cardinals, the field included Charleston, Cincinnati, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Ole Miss, Purdue, South Dakota State and South Florida.
