Zach Leads Cardinals to Fifth after First Day at the Intercollegiate at the Grove

Simon Zach fired a 69 on Sunday to sit in a tie for fourth.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Simon Zach shot a 3-under-par 69 to lead the University of Louisville men's golf team after round one of the Intercollegiate at the Grove, held at The Grove Club.
The Cardinals shot an even-par 288 to finish fifth after 18 holes, five shots behind leader Kennessaw State (-5). Kentucky, USF and Ole Miss are all tied for second at 4-under par, while Liberty (+2), College of Charleston (+2) and Louisiana Tech (+4) round out spots six through eight.
Zach, who struggled to a 57th-place finish in his last event, rebounded by posting six birdies on the day to sit in a tie for fourth place, just two shots off the lead. Beau Briggs of Mississippi and Kyle Flexenhar of South Florida are tied for the lead at a 5-under-par 67.
Coming off a win at the Old Town Club Intercollegiate, Matthias Schmid is off to a good start after shooting a 1-under-par 71 to sit in a tie for 15th-place after Monday's round. John Murphy, who was second on the team with four birdies on the day, is 1-over-par after carding a 73 to tie for 30th place
Jiri Zuska fired a 2-over-par 75 to finish the day in a tie for 47th and Devin Morley rounded out the top five by shooting 78 to finish in a tie for 63rd place.
The Cardinals are paired with Mississippi and will tee off Monday morning at 10 a.m.
