Men's Golf Returns to the Course at the Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate at The Grove

The Cardinals won the Old Town Club Intercollegiate in their last time out.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - – After nearly three weeks off from action, the University of Louisville men's golf team is eager to return to the course on Sunday. The squad is set to take on a three-day, 54-hole event featuring 13 teams at the Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate at The Grove.
This will be the third event of the fall, with the Cardinals finishing second at the Louisville Cardinals Challenge and winning the Old Town Club Invitational.
The Cardinals will play the same lineup that dominated the field almost three weeks ago in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Sophomore Matthias Schmid won his first tournament by winning the Old Town Club Invitational. In his 15th career event, Schmid picked up his first win by dominating the field the last two days.
Playing in his second event this fall, Schmid set the school record, and helped the Cardinals win the overall tournament by one stroke. Louisville won the event by firing an 11-under-par on the final day to overcome Wake Forest by a stroke, and the Cardinals picked up their third win in the last two seasons.
The Maxhvette, Germany, native captured the school's mark for the best 54-hole score, and won his first tournament by firing an 18-under-par 192, besting Wake Forest's Eric Bae by three strokes to win medalist honors.
Schmid's the first UofL player to win a tournament since Simon Zach captured the Warrior Wave Princeville Invitational last season by firing a 21-under-par 195.
Jiri Zuska and Devin Morley, who have played well this season, each own a 69.50 stroke average this year. Morley's best finish was fifth at the Louisville Cardinals Challenge, while Zuska was tied for 10that the Old Town Club.
John Murphy and Simon Zach will also appear for the Cardinals this week.
Trevor Johnson will take the course as an individual.
The Grove will play at a par of 72 over 7,368 yards. It's a 54-hole event with 18 strokes being played each day Sunday through Tuesday. Live scoring will be available via golfstat.com.
In addition to the Cardinals, the field includes Charleston, Cincinnati, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Ole Miss, Purdue, South Dakota State and South Florida.
The Cardinals will tee off on Sunday at 10 a.m.
