McFerran, Pastor selected to first team, Stone, Russ named to second team
Four University of Louisville field hockey players earned All-ACC honors as announced by the league office on Wednesday. Senior Ayeisha McFerran and sophomore Mercedes Pastor were selected to the first team while senior Taylor Stone and redshirt sophomore Bethany Russ were named to the second team. The awards are decided by a vote of the league's seven head coaches.
Â
This marks the third straight All-ACC honor for McFerran. The Larne, Northern Ireland native has started every game for the Cardinals and collected five shutouts, tied for the most among ACC goalkeepers. The team co-captain carries a 1.14 goals against average standing second in the ACC and ninth in the nation. McFerran, a three-time NFHCA all-American and all-West Region selection, also stands second in the nation among active goalkeepers with 50 career victories and is ranked among the top three on Louisville's career lists for wins, shutouts and goals against average. She was recently selected to compete in the NFHCA Senior Game which will take place on Nov. 16 at Louisville's Trager Stadium.
Â
Pastor has been a valuable contributor in the Cardinals' midfield this season. The sophomore from Buenos Aires, Argentina has started every game in her first season at Louisville. She has tallied four goals, including the game-winner in double overtime at No. 15 Syracuse and the deciding goal in overtime against California. Pastor has also dished out two assists to bring her point total to 10 this season.
Stone collects her second all-ACC nod after earning second team honors in 2017. The midfielder/defender from Herndon, Va., stands third on the team with four goals and has tallied eight points. The team co-captain has also been a valuable part of the Cardinals' defense which has produced five shutouts.  In 2017, she earned NFHCA All-America honors and was named to the All-West Region and All-ACC teams. She has registered 15 career goals and notched 33 points. She was selected to the 2018 NFHCA Senior Game which will take place on Nov. 16 following the conclusion of the NCAA semifinal game at Louisville's Trager Stadium.
Â
Russ, a forward/midfielder from Melbourne, Australia leads the team with 11 goals and 24 points – both career highs. After being sidelined by injury last season, the redshirt sophomore has made up for lost time with six of her 11 goals standing as game-winners, placing her second in the ACC in that category. Russ accounted for the game-winners against Boston College, Northwestern, Virginia, Michigan State, Miami and Kent State.
